Imagine that the worst has happened, and you’re ready
Update, January, 2013:
I love teaching and helping others to become better prepared for emergencies. But maintaining the blog and newsletter began getting in the way of my main business, New Leaf + Company, and my greatest thrill, helping entrepreneurs get rid of that feeling of overwhelm and getting productive.
I can’t do them both, so for now, I’m no longer offering classes or blogging about emergency preparation.
I have been asked by several people to please keep this site up. The blog posts are still relevant and useful, so for now I’ll keep the lights on. (If anyone would like to acquire this site, please contact me.)
Thank you for coming out to play with me.
Preparation feels great!
Hello, my name is Margaret Lukens, and I’m the founder of Preparation Nation. I’m here to help you prepare for all kinds of disasters — whether caused by nature or by humans.
See whether this sounds familiar: There was a time when I felt overwhelmed at the thought of preparing for an earthquake, a fire, a theft, or other emergency. I wanted to know that I could take care of myself, my family, and my stuff, but it seemed impossible. The “experts” I consulted were confusing, and the supplies they recommended seemed needlessly expensive.
Still, the thought of facing myself after a serious disaster and knowing that I hadn’t done all I could to prepare just felt too awful. The catastrophe of 9/11 and the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina only fueled my determination to become better prepared.
And as a professional organizer, I heard way too may stories of people who had big regrets after a loss.
So I began at home. Through trial and error (and more error) I sorted out the steps I needed to take to get prepared. Then better prepared. Then “ready for anything.”
I founded Preparation Nation to help people like myself, people who want to provide for themselves, their families and communities, and protect their belongings, without becoming a little crazy.
You are not alone! Together we can make emergency preparation faster, easier, safer, and more fun!
Be sure to visit the blog, where you’ll find information and inspiration – everything from what does an earthquake feel like to where to store your emergency supplies. And if you’ve been wanting to get your important papers in order, look at my Vital Records Get-It-Done Telephone Workshop. From anywhere in the country I can help you get organized, for emergencies and for daily life. Imagine, no more searching for your vital records!
I’ll give you your passport to Preparation Nation, and a whole new level of protection for you, your family, and the things that really matter to you.
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
All the best,
